Silverstone Classic 2013 highlights – Shorade
What a fantastic weekend at Silverstone Classic! An array of exciting events from record breaking, to award ceremonies, stunning car displays and opportunities to meet some of the most renowned names in Motor Sport.
As the official sponsors for the Lamborghini Club UK; the team at Shorade were delighted to be based from the Lamborghini Club stand positioned a stone’s throw from the track between Aston Martin and the Ferrari Owners Club.
Celebrations held at each corner; from the 50th Anniversary of Lamborghini, the 50th Anniversary of the Porsche 911 and the 100th Anniversary of Aston Martin. A great mix of Motor Sport legends, Royalty, Pop stars and celebrities were seen perusing the impressive displays and stands. Celebrating with the Lamborghini Club, we had the legendary Lamborghini test driver Valentino Balboni as guest of honour for the entire weekend.
It was fascinating to listen to Valentino speak about Lamborghini and his first hand experiences with each model from production line to testing. Valentino kindly posed with his fans for photos, signed posters, prints, autograph books and in some cases Club owners vehicles (from back seats to scissor doors). It was also fantastic to welcome Tiff Needell on the stand following his first ever Formula Ford race.
On the Porsche stand; members of Porsche Club Great Britain and the public gathered eagerly around Club Owners awarded best in category awards which were distributed by Porsche dignitary; Mark Porsche – son of Ferdinand ‘Butzi’ Porsche, the renowned designer of the 911. On Sunday the Porsche Club also broke a World Record where they drove a staggering 1208 Porsche 911’s around Silverstone’s circuit with Mark Porsche and five times Le Mans winner Derek Bell leading the way.
Celebrations were also in full swing with Aston Martin, where the Centenary Parade attracted onlookers such as Sir Jackie Stewart, the Juke of Kent and Murray Walker. Many clubs and manufacturers were in attendance including, the Morgan Motor Company, the Ferrari Owners Club, Mercedes-Benz Owners, Stag Owners and BMW to name a few. Not just cars but fly-past’s and dog fights displayed too, from the Red Devils, to Spitfires, hot air balloons and helicopter flights, it was also a delight to see our friends from Hagerty Classic Car Insurance who had a beautiful Berliet and Bentley on display.
Over the course of the weekend more than 100 Lamborghini’s were displayed; from a mix of vehicles that had travelled the UK and further afield to attend Silverstone Classic. From Classic Lamborghini’s such as a beautiful Miura valued at an estimated £650,000.00 which formerly belonged to Twiggy to Moderns – a stunning Lamborghini Aventador Roadster driven by Lamborghini Birmingham and dealership presence from Lamborghini Manchester, Sevenoakes, London and Edinburgh. Also in attendance were the team from Lamborghini HQ who brought a stunning press car. On the Sunday the Lamborghini Racing Team arrived fresh from the Super Trofeo Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on the Saturday.
On the Saturday evening the Lamborghini Club hosted a Gala dinner at Whittlebury Hall to continue the 50th Anniversary celebrations. A black tie event with music and raffles, prizes donated by a number of affiliates including a Superior Waxing treatment for one of the Club members vehicles donated by Shorade. Part of the celebrations were to include a Lamborghini rally however this was unfortunately cancelled by Marshalls at Silverstone due to a sudden down pour.
